Who Am I and What Am I Doing Here???
First, let me ask you what are you doing here? There are a ridiculous amount of travel blogs out there! Why this one? Well, for starters, no travel blog is the same, because no traveler has the same experiences. That is the beauty of blogging. Everyone has their own unique stories to tell, and if you’re like me, then you want to hear all of them. Also, not every travel blog is written by the digital nomad, solo female traveler, or a backpacker. I am not your average travel blogger!
So, let me introduce myself! My name is Alex Sallee. I am a married, thirty-something woman who loves to travel whenever she can. I am a mom, I am a freelance writer, and I own Worldwide Travel Journal, which caters to clients in the travel, adventure, hospitality, and tourism space. I offer many services including copywriting and content creation. I started this business because I was forced into a position where I could not work a normal 9-to-5. My husband was promoted to a job that required him to be at work for 12-14 hours a day for 6 days a week, and my daughter was diagnosed with a condition that complicated even the most mundane aspects of daily life. Someone had to be home to provide the extra attention she needed. With the price of daycare and babysitters increasing during the COVID pandemic, that job fell to me. This also meant there would be no way for me to manage a “normal” job.
So, what did I do? I created one for myself of course, with which I could have the freedom I needed and be my own boss! Meanwhile, I enjoy contributing to this blog. In the end, it is a blessing. I can write and talk about travel as much as I want to! I have always loved travel. I have always wanted to be somewhere other than where I live. I have always dreamed of being able to see the world, especially Southeast Asia, Africa, and the South Pacific. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to travel until I got married. I was hell-bent on joining the military and traveling the world that way, but I suffer from autoimmune disease and was disqualified from serving. I went to college even though I could not afford it. I went to a college two hours away from home even though my parents advised me against it. I was working three different jobs at a time to be able to get a degree because that’s what I thought I was supposed to do! Looking back now, I wish I had just graduated high school, packed my bags, got on a plane, and winged it (no pun intended)! I know now that backpacking around the world may have been cheaper than college life, and would have brought me more happiness and more chances to do the things that I wanted to do! But alas… I eventually left my seemingly impossible independent life, and went back home in total defeat. Fast forward to now, and my husband and I have been to some really cool places, and don’t plan to stop. We still run into challenges in being able to see the world. However, our daughter has been a real trouper, and we have accepted the challenge! I am really doing what I love now. I hope you find my experiences, tips, and point of view helpful, and if not, I at least hope you get a laugh out of it!
